New to Cons?

Your weekend at New Anthrodam, step by step

This is New Anthrodam’s first year, so we’re all new here together. Here’s how the weekend works for everyone, and especially if this is your first furry con.

1. Before You Go

  • Register online. Anyone under 18 needs a signed consent form.
  • Book a room in our hotel block, and plan your trip with Getting Here.
  • Read the Code of Conduct. It applies to everyone, whatever their badge.
  • Pick the events you want on the schedule and save them to My Schedule. Install our site as an app and the schedule and venue map work offline.
  • If you’re 18 or over, pack a government-issued photo ID. You can’t pick up your badge without it.

2. When You Arrive

  • Staying at the hotel? Check in first. Getting Here covers what to do if your room isn’t ready.
  • Pick up your badge at Registration on the Promenade. Only you can pick up your own badge, and the FAQ has the hours.
  • Wear your badge whenever you’re in convention space.

3. During the Con

  • Things start on Thursday evening, Opening Ceremonies are on Friday morning, and the weekend wraps up with Closing Ceremonies on Sunday. The schedule has everything in between.
  • Find your way with the venue map, and check the Dealers Den map for its hours and tables.
  • Need a break? The Quiet Room is open to everyone, and fursuiters can cool down in the Headless Lounge.
  • For help, ask any staff member or go to Con Ops in Salon I. That’s also where to report harassment to Safety, and where lost and found is.

General Tips

Look After Yourself

  • Follow the 6-2-1 rule: every day, get at least 6 hours of sleep, eat 2 meals and take 1 shower. It’s easy to forget when you’re having fun.
  • A meal is real food, not chips or energy drinks, and a shower means soap and water, not body spray.
  • Carry a water bottle and wash your hands often. Germs spread fast in a crowd, and nobody wants to take “con crud” home.

Meeting Fursuiters

  • Ask before you hug, touch or take a photo, and never hug from behind. Our Code of Conduct is clear that a fursuit isn’t consent.
  • Some fursuiters don’t talk, so ask with a gesture too, like opening your arms for a hug. A wave-off isn’t personal: it’s hot in there.
  • Don’t pull tails or take props, and give fursuiters room in the halls. Most fursuiters have limited visibility and may not see you coming.

Look Out for Each Other

  • If someone looks unwell, ask if they’re OK, then ask one specific person to fetch a staff member so it actually happens.
  • A fursuiter who can’t give you a clear spoken answer may be overheating. Get staff right away.

Making the Most of It

  • You’ll get out of the con what you put into it. Go to a panel on something you love, and the room will be full of people who love it too.
  • Meet and greets are an easy way to find your people. The schedule lists them all.
  • Don’t try to do everything. Pick a few events you can’t miss, and leave time to wander and chat.
